The Marchand system uses a standard, four wire trellis. One year old whips are planted at a 45º angle from the horizon.  That angle is kept through out the tree's development. The branches are maintained at one foot apart. They are trained at 90º angle to the trunk which makes them a 45º angle to the ground.
