High-tensile wire is less ductile, or bendable then low-tensile wire. Because of this, the best known hand tied knots used for securing fence wire fail between 60 - 66% of the high-tensile wires breaking strength. Since the failure rate is so high, these knots should not be used, and mechanical devices for splicing should be substituted.
